FACILITIES AND SERVICES

Location

The Helsinki Summer School office is located in the beautiful neoclassical centre of Helsinki right off the Senate Square. The courses arranged by the University of Helsinki are held on the University campus in the same area or in Kumpula, which is approximately 5 kilometres from downtown, and Viikki, located about 9 kilometres from the centre of Helsinki. 

The campuses of the Aalto University School of Economics and the Hanken School of Economics are also located close to downtown Helsinki. The Otaniemi campus of the Aalto University, designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, is located in Espoo, which is about a 15-minute bus ride from downtown.

Campus maps

Info Desk

Our Info Desk is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm throughout the entire Summer School session. The Info Desk is conveniently located on the second floor of the main building of the University of Helsinki’s city campus, right next to the Cathedral and the Senate Square. Our Info Desk staff will be happy to help answer any questions you might have. Whether you need help with registration, aren’t sure how to get a library card, or want to know what’s going on around Helsinki, we’re here to help. The Info Desk also provides material about the universities and tourist information about Helsinki. In addition, we publish a daily Info Desk newsletter, which keeps you up to date on the HSS social programme, lists various events and happenings in Helsinki, and includes lots of other useful information. Be sure to check it out!

Extranet

All Helsinki Summer School students will have access to our extranet service. You’ll receive your own username and password, which will give you access to a wide range of detailed information about your course, the facilities, social programme, and life in Helsinki. 

Computer Facilities

Helsinki Summer School provides a wide range of comprehensive computer services. Each student will receive a computer licence and an e-mail account, as well as a printing quota of 500 copies. Students also have unlimited access to the extensive computer facilities at the Aleksandria Learning Centre. After paying a small deposit, you’ll get a key card allowing you 24-hour access to the centre, which is located right next to the HSS office. Students will also be able to book online group work facilities at Aleksandria.

Library

Upon request, students will be issued a certificate of attendance allowing them to borrow books from the Helsinki University Main Library. The library is located at the Kaisa House, next to the Aleksandria Learning Centre. The libraries at the universities of Helsinki and the Helsinki City Library are also open to Helsinki Summer School students.

Eating at the Student Cafeterias

Helsinki Summer School students may eat at student cafeterias at any of the participating campuses.

Sports

HSS students are entitled to use the gym at the University of Helsinki at a special low price. The university also organises a wide range of classes in yoga, circuit training, aerobics etc. The Info Desk is also happy to loan HSS students basketballs, boules, footballs, mölkky and other sports equipment.
