Your travel expenses will depend on whether or not you need a travel card and, if so, whether you will need a local or regional travel card. Public transportation travel cards for use within the City of Helsinki are valid on buses, trams, the metro, local trains and the Suomenlinna ferry. A Helsinki Local travel card for 3-19 August, for example, costs 43.40 EUR.
The courses Wood in Construction and Architecture and Interdisciplinary Product Development will be held at the Otaniemi campus in Espoo. If you plan to take one of these courses, you might want to purchase a regional travel card for 3-19 August, 76.20 EUR.
Additional information about the public transportation system will be availabe before August in HSS extranet, see also www.ytv.fi.
In addition to covering the costs of traveling to and from Finland, students will have to pay for visa and travel insurance, meals and public transportation in Helsinki, voluntary day trips and other social events. Living expenses are approximately 10-20 EUR per day (students may eat lunch at the university cafeterias for around 4-6 EUR). You may also be required to cover photocopying, course material and handout costs (150 copies is 12 EUR, 500 copies is 36 EUR).
